Sika® Primer-209 D
Solvent-based pigmented primer for plastics and painted surfaces
Sika® Primer-209 D is a solvent-based black primer, which reacts with moisture and forms a thin layer. This layer acts as a link between substrates and adhesives. Sika® Primer-209 D is specifically formulated for the treatment of bonding surfaces prior to the application of one-part Sika polyurethanes. This primer could provide excellent adhesion without previous activation steps on certain plastic substrates.

EMPLOYMENTS
Sika® Primer-209 D is used to improve adhesion on many plastics and painted surfaces such as GRP, epoxies, PVC, ABS, PMMA, PC, PS and acrylics, alkyds/melamines, powder paints and baking varnishes. Due to the wide variety of plastic materials, preliminary trials on original substrates under production conditions are mandatory. Consult the manufacturer and perform tests on the original substrates before using Sika® Primer-209 D on materials subject to stress cracking. This product is only suitable for experienced professional users. To ensure adhesion and material compatibility, tests with substrates under real-world conditions are required.

  • Application temperature: 5 ─ 40 °C
  • Method of application: Brush, felt pad or sponge
  • Coverage, depends on the porosity of the substrate: 50 ml/m2
  • Flash-off time: ≥ 15 °C-10 minutes < 15 °C-30 minutes maximum 24 hours

APPLICATION METHOD
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, oil, dust and contaminants. Adhesion to substrates can be improved by adding and/or combining pre-treatment processes such as abrasion, cleaning and activation.

APPLICATION
Shake Sika® Primer-209 D very thoroughly until the mixing ball moves freely. Continue shaking for another minute and apply a thin but covering layer using a brush, felt pad or sponge.

The ideal application and surface temperature is between 15 °C and 25 °C.

Sika® Primer-209 D only needs to be applied once. Care must be taken to ensure that this single application gives a sufficiently dense coverage. Consumption and method of application depend on the specific nature of the substrates. Close the container tightly immediately after each use.
